Sarapiqui, Costa Rica

Day 3: May 29th, 2017

This one is called the “Adventure Combo” , which was also booked through Expedeciones Tropicales. For this combo, the price is $126 (the price without our discount) and it included breakfast and lunch, as well as all transportation and activities.

We were picked up at our hotel and began the drive up to Sarapiqui, not before stopping for breakfast along the way at a restaurant called “Freddo Fresas” where we had the choice of breakfast with coffee. It was a nice and quick stop. Perfect for a stretch and the place itself was super spacious and surrounded by cute paintings.

After breakfast, we continued to our destination and when we finally arrived, we were greeted by the workers there and they explained what our day would consist of. We had the choice to choose from two of three activities that were available around the time we arrived. Horseback riding, zip-lining and white water rafting. As much as I wanted to do horseback riding and water rafting, I had to pick zip-lining or else I wouldn’t be able to water raft with my friends (because of the schedules they had available).

First we did the zip-lining, and went through NINE cables before finishing. All the workers there were just so amazing. They were helpful from beginning to end and always friendly and joking around. You can tell they love their job and meeting the tourists!

After zip-lining, we had maybe a 15 minute window where we had time to go change into an outfit for the white water rafting. Before actually getting in the raft, the raft instructor gave us a run through on how to navigate the paddle and sit on the tube. This was the first time any of us in my group of friends was going to try this. Most of us were excited, one of us was really nervous (not me but don’t want to blow her spot up ☺️)

They recommended that we didn’t bring our phones for this activity (for obvious reasons!) so there weren’t many pictures of this. It lasted about 45 minutes and honestly, we enjoyed every minute of it. There were some points where we thought “oh damn, we’re about to fall off this shit.” It was so exhilarating though. White water rafting on the Sarapiqui River was definitely an unforgettable adventure. We got a chance to jump in the water & thankfully it’s one of the most cleanest rivers in Costa Rica! Our raft instructor and guide gave us fresh pineapple 🍍 while we relaxed on the raft for a few minutes. If you want an adrenaline rush, I absolutely recommend trying this tour out. You won’t regret it!

(The only picture of white water rafting & only cause we purchased it afterwards!)

After completing these two activities, we headed to the restaurant they had on site and with a view of the river, we enjoyed a scrumptious meal! Some of us had chicken, others had meat and some even fish. The meal was phenomenal! (& remember, every thing was included in what we paid for the tour!)

That night, we headed to the downtown part of San Jose to walk around and get a feel for the city. It was too late to go into the museums but we wandered the streets and took some pictures. Towards the end of the night, we went to grab drinks and dinner at a restaurant that we had heard great music from & even did karaoke! Here are some pictures from our night around San Jose!
